Beemurra Aboriginal Corporation (Beemurra) owns and manages the farming property Yallalie Downs, which is situated between Badgingarra and Moora in the Dandaragan shire (see where we are on the map). Beemurra has been successfully managing Yallalie Downs since 1999.
Our primary enterprise is backgrounding cattle, which involves managing cattle whilst they graze on Yallalie pastures in order to improve their marketability. Clients are charged a fee based on the performance (increased body weight and improved condition) of the cattle.
Another point of interest on our land is the Yallalie Meteorite Impact Crater. 12km in diameter and approximately 2km deep, it was caused by a relatively small, 500m asteroid some 75 million years ago. The crater is now very eroded and difficult to distinguish.
Beemurra Aboriginal Corporation has recently upgraded the fencing, the water system and cattle handling facilities on Yallalie, which enables efficient management of cattle and pastures.
Beemurra’s backgrounding enterprise was established on Yallalie Downs with support from the DAFWA (now DPIRD) Indigenous Landholder program and an ILSC grant.
